Home for the Holidays is a winter festival that goes on in McKinney, tx the weekend after thanksgiving. After finishing most of my Christmas shopping at target the night of thanksgiving I decided to have some fun. the morning of I watched some episodes of the new Gilmore Girls revival and then headed out.
The whole downtown square is sectioned off with a carousel, tons of booths, carnival foods, and all the local shops participating! Everything was so cute including a sweet little petting zoo for baby Samson!
After strolling around I found a trendy little coffee shop called (f)iltered. My first attempt inside was ending in anxiety. So I retreated and asked Dustin to go in while I shot selfies with Samson. 20 minutes later he came out with one of the best iced mocha lattes I've had in YEARS remenescent of 'la tazza Fresca' of Austin.
The people of McKinney. Or at least the people of the festival seemed to be upper middle class at... worst? Best? Overall it seemed to be a rich town. Very skinny highlighted manicured women. Young. Young families. I wondered what the rent must be like.
I ate far too much at a neighboring Mexican restaurant and topped it with kettle corn before I decided that I had had enough fun and must go home. My head was pounding from carbs and caffeine.
The festival goes on for the rest of the weekend and is worth the drive. Free to go in and rides are less than $5 and babies appeared to be free. I had a blast despite extreme bloating. And McKinney is kind of cool. Surprisingly.
