Prior to a little over a year ago, I wasn't even aware that there was a fancy more legit version of ramen. I didn't like ramen at all and often referred to it as 'dirty noodle water'.
When I started dating Dustin he said he loved ramen and I decided to try it out and take him to wabi house. Fell in love (with the food) and the rest was history. When I saw tanoshii open I was down and a half. Yet Dustin kept making other suggestions. As if he just wanted to open my eyes to ramen and then shut them forever so I could really know what loss was. And he succeeded until last week.
I finally put my foot down and was like, " we going." We started with the shisito peppers. I mean... that's cool. I wasn't in awe but they were nicely prepared. but I was there for the real deal.
I had ordered the miso spicy ramen. It had grilled corn and a soft boiled egg. It was perfection. Everything you could want in a ramen bowl. Like I wouldn't just recommend but I would force this in you.
Dustin ordered the steamed pork buns. Which I hadn't even heard of before earlier that week watching something on the food network about a shop in la that was famous for them. I had a bite but I was in too deep with the ramen to want to love anything else.
The waiter was super attentive but it was like I was making out with my food and he kept approaching and I was waiving him off. I got this. Just leave us alone for a couple minutes to get to know each other.
yeah it's a little creepy how I feel about this ramen but ... it's that good. Check them out and let me know what you think. Tanoshii is located on commerce st in deep ellum.
